Marching Band Uniform Instructions

All uniforms will be fitted during the first week of Band Camp. All alterations will be made by the Band Boosters during this period. No other alterations, including tape, staples or pins are allowed. Uniforms are to be kept in the specified closets in the Band Room and not taken home unless permission is given by the Band Director.

Please make sure to remember your uniform number! It makes passing them all out much quicker. Uniforms will be stored by grade in closets — i.e., Seniors, Juniors, etc.

Only Senior Band Members can remove their uniforms from the closets, all underclassmen must have a Band Booster get their uniform and put their uniform back in the closet.

While at events like Football games, Band Members should remain in uniform unless otherwise instructed. This means keeping your jacket on and zipped and your hat on your head. Also, while in the stands, please DO NOT sit on anything — like the metal bleacher seats — unless the black vinyl seat covers are on it because your pants will turn black! The uniforms are going on 13 years and they need to stay in good condition. Please alert a Band Mom if you have an issue with your uniform (like a stain, missing button or snap, etc.) as soon as you notice it so that it can be addressed.

Formal uniform: jacket, bib pants, hat, white socks, and white marching shoes. You are responsible for your entire uniform and it should be hung on the hanger correctly to avoid wrinkles. Pants are to be hung with the side seams together. If you need a refresher on how this is done, please ask a Band Parent. If the uniform is not put back on the hanger correctly, it will be given back to you to correct. Also, please let Booster Parents know if there is a problem with your uniform as soon as you notice! This includes stains, loose hems, missing parts, etc. so that they can be fixed or replaced BEFORE the next performance.

Bib Pants: The zipper goes in the front! Pant hems should touch the top of the shoes without a “break” in the pant. White shorts are to be worn under the white pants. There are two pairs of pants: white (which are lighter and usually worn until after the Geneva Band Festival) and Red (which are heavier weight). Please ONLY sit on the black Bleacher Covers in the stands. Metal seats will turn your pants black!

White Shorts: Worn under the white or red bib pants, or as the Summer Uniform (with the Red Band T-Shirt). This is the only short that should be worn by both males and females for band functions. No short (less than fingertip length) shorts, no non-white shorts, shorts with patterns or form-fitting shorts should be worn.

White shorts

The required shorts can be found at Walmart. You will need these ASAP. They are usually available in the store and some sizes can be ordered online.

LINK: Starter Men’s Active Mesh Short in Arctic White.

They are generally less than $7.00 a pair.

Jackets: The zipper goes in the front and all buttons must be buttoned.

Hat: This is the red and white ball cap provided for you at the beginning of the year. It it be left with your uniform in the closet. It also has your jacket number on the inside bill in case it is misplaced. Do Not take it home as we do not have extras and you will have to replace it.

Band T-Shirts: They are worn under your pants and jacket. This is the red Freedom Marching Band t-shirt that was supplied to you the first year. If you have grown out of or need a new shirt, please let one of the Booster Parents know and we will get you another.

Shoes should be wiped with a damp cloth as needed. Instrumentalists are required to have clean, white band shoes. Your shoes should have your jacket number written inside your shoes with a Sharpie so that they can be found in case they are misplaced.

Extra, used band shoes are available all season long. Please ask a Band Parent if you need a pair.

Socks: Students provide calf-length white (without any coloring or logos) socks.

Hair (boys and girls!): Hair must be out of your eyes and must not touch the collar of your jacket.
It must be pulled up into ponytail or concealed with headband under your hat.

Jewelry: Only VERY SMALL earrings are acceptable (no large or hoop earrings). SECTION LEADERS need to look carefully during inspections. Please make what adjustments you can within your section.
